SUMMARY:GVL & TR ELEM - Hagood Mill Native American Day
DESCRIPTION:Come learn with us at Hagood Mill. \nPlease arrive at by 9:45 at the latest to sign a waiver/use the restroom and get assigned into your group\, so we can start promptly at 10 am with our first station. It’s a large group\, so arriving early gives plenty of time to get everyone settled.\nFeel free to bring a packed lunch and stay and enjoy the areas of Hagood Mill that you may not been able to see/experience (especially the cabins). \n$12 per student (5 and older) and adult chaperones are free.\nChildren 4 and under/tag along younger siblings are free with a paid sibling.\nIf you are ONLY bringing yourself and a 4 year old to learn\, please purchase a student ticket for that 4-year-old. If you’re purchasing other student tickets\, you may bring a 4-year-old at no charge. \nOur group will be split into four groups and we will rotate through four learning stations (see below).\nThis is will Native American Focus\, in case you have attended before\, there will be some new stations from last visit. \nThey do have a mill that has a shop that sells fresh ground corn meal and other items\, so you can prepare to support them in that way as well. \nExcited to learn and experience history up close\, while building community with our UHC family. \nStations:\n1. Native American Petroglyphs: Inside the Hagood Creek Petroglyph Site\, students will see over 30 ancient carvings\, as well as a collection of portable petroglyphs that provide insight into early Native American culture. Native American artifacts and art are also on display for students to view.\n2. From Trails to Roads: Students will walk along part of an ancient Native American trail on the mill site that was used by early travelers on foot and later by early automobiles. Comparisons are made between animal and human trails and some of the well-known roads of the Upstate that developed during the 1800s.\n3. Traditional Native American Games: Students will engage in games played by Native American tribes\, learning their cultural significance and the skills they helped develop.\n4. Native American Life in the Upcountry: Students will learn about indigenous survival skills used by Native Americans such as hunting with bows and arrows\, the use of river cane\, making dugout canoes\, and starting a fire. Examples and demonstrations of techniques and primitive tools will provide a unique experience to better understand aspects of Native American life.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Sandy Flat Quarry for an educational quarry tour designed for homeschool students and families. Participants will enjoy an overlook tour of the quarry pit and learn how we safely extract and process rock through drilling\, blasting\, crushing\, and screening operations to produce aggregates used in roads\, buildings\, and other important infrastructure projects. The tour will also highlight environmental stewardship practices\, including land\, water\, and air quality protection associated with modern mining operations. \nBagged Lunches (4 years old and older) will be provided at no cost. Children under 4 may share a lunch with a parent or sibling. Please note\, this is not a great field trip for small children\, so you may want to make arrangements for them if at all possible. \nClosed Toe shoes are required for safety. \nSignup deadline is October 27 at 11:30pm.

Cup of homemade ice-cream (your choice of chocolate or vanilla) \nTickets are $15 per person (ages 2+) and must be purchased on site. \nYou will need to arrive early to purchase tickets at “The Shed” before loading onto the wagon. We must arrive at the wagon by 10:15am for the field trip to begin at 10:30am. If we are late\, time is deducted from the field trip. \nThis is a farm\, so be sure to dress accordingly! It may be muddy! Light jackets or rain boots/old shoes are recommended. Sandals are not recommended!

It has four floors of permanent and changing exhibits\, a digital dome planetarium\, 4D interactive theater\, and an observatory. The State Museum is located along the banks of the Congaree River in downtown Columbia\, South Carolina. \nWe will meet & go through the museum at our own pace. Please bring a lunch as we have a room set aside for us for lunch. \nAdmission is free for students\, younger siblings 3 and under\, and 1 parent teacher. \nAdditional parent chaperones are $5\, paid at the ticket counter (don’t purchase online as it will charge you full price).

During their field trip\, children receive a mini horseback riding lesson\, learn about horse care\, grooming\, brushing\, and basic horse anatomy\, and participate in an exciting farm scavenger hunt. They’ll also love spending time in the bunny pen with adorable chicks\, and one of the favorite activities is finger painting one of our gentle ponies before helping give it a bubbly bath. It’s the perfect blend of hands-on learning\, animal interaction\, and outdoor fun! We hope you can join us! \nSignup deadline is November 9. Purchase tickets for students and children. Parents do not need to purchase a ticket. \n*Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required for safety for the event. \nThis field trip requires a minimum of 25 attendees. DESCRIPTION:Sign ups will open in mid November 2026.\n \nLet’s Celebrate Christmas with a day of Fun and Festivity! \nWhat:  All students in K4- 5th grade are invited to the most fun morning of the year as we host a giant Christmas party with your UHC friends! Our morning will be full of exciting games\, some fun prizes\, Christmas tunes\, crafts that can be used as decor or gifts and best of all\, time with friends! Sign up early and invite a friend from your class!  Wear your most festive Christmas outfit! \nWho: K4 through 5th graders are invited!  *All K4/K5 students must be accompanied by a parent or other adult.  Unfortunately\, parents cannot bring toddlers or mobile infants as this event is not suitable for those ages. \nWhen:  Thursday\, December 3rd\, 2026 –  Drop Off at 9:00am.  Pick up at 12:00pm. \nWhere: UHC SPT – Church At the Mill- Student Center \nCost: $12.75 per student payable upon sign up below. \n**Important to Remember** \n\nA snack will be provided but if your child has special dietary needs\, please send a snack they can eat.  Bring your student a water bottle labeled with their name!\nDrop off/pick up will take place in the regular morning carline or you may park and walk your students into the Student Center.  You may drop off at 9:00am and pick up is at 12:00pm.\nK4/K5 students must have a parent stay the day.  See note above about baby and toddler siblings.\nSign Up fees are refundable up to Sunday\, November 29th\, 2026.  After that date\, sign up fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.\n\n\nQuestions?
