With our augmented reality sandboxes\, students will also shape and create landforms that impact our environment. Students will walk away from this lesson as Conservation Cadets with solutions to help protect our Earth! \nEco Detectives: Students will become wildlife biologists as they examine mystery skulls\, scats\, and dissected owl pellets of animals in our local ecosystems. Hands-on activities will be used to infer what kind of consumers live in our ecosystems and what they depend upon for food. \nChaperones are needed for this trip and will be chosen by timestamp based on sign ups!

DESCRIPTION:3RD GRADE ROPER MOUNTAIN SCIENCE CENTER FIELD TRIP -Natural Science Discovery \nAll 3rd graders are invited to attend a field trip at Roper Mountain Science Center! \nDiscover the Following:  \nTerrific Traits – Through handling and closely examining a variety of live animals\, students will discover ways in which these unique organisms have special traits that help them survive in their environments. \nFossils: As paleontologists\, students will observe mystery fossils to learn about life in our ancient past. Students will examine fossil specimens\, hunt for marine fossils in our fossil pit and visit our dinosaur trail. \nSurvivor: “The tribe has spoken…” Which animals have what it takes to thrive on islands? Through hands on games and activities\, students will learn about unique traits as well as difficult challenges that animals face that could determine whether or not they thrive\, struggle\, or fail to survive. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with live animals that call the islands their home. \nLife Cycles: All organisms go through changes of growth and development in their life cycles. In this lesson\, students will observe differences in life cycles from young to adult using live animals. SUMMARY:SPT 3rd-5th Rock Quarry Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an up close look at earth science! We will tour Vulcan Materials Rock Quarry in Pacolet\, SC on Friday\, September 29th. They will show an informational video and talk about what they do at Vulcan. The general presentation includes information about Vulcan Materials Company\, the use of minerals within society and particularly the role aggregates play in today’s world. There is also a discussion of the mining process\, how we produce aggregates\, the regulatory and permitting requirements and reclamation efforts. A safety talk is also included that addresses the safety requirements for the specific tour and group of visitors. Then we will jump on the bus and take a tour of the plant and see some VERY big equipment at work. We will visit the pit area to see where the mining takes place. They will have pizza for us and a goody bag!
