DESCRIPTION:This training seminar is mandatory for parents enrolling students in the following Institute for Excellence in Writing courses at UHC: \n\n3rd Grade IEW\n4th Grade IEW\n5th Grade IEW\nIEW 1\, 6th Grade for Sixth Graders new to UHC\nIEW 1\, 7th-8th Grade for Seventh or Eighth Graders new to UHC\n\nThe UHC Parent Training Seminar for IEW writing courses at UHC is 4 hours long and includes a combination of a recorded training and live Q&A sessions. IEW’s founder\, Andrew Pudewa\, introduces the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style method of teaching writing briefly covering the nine units of structure and introducing several stylistic techniques. Participants will gain insight into why this method is so effective in teaching even the most reluctant writer. UHC Staff and IEW teachers will provide live Q&A sessions where they will explain how UHC applies IEW’s structure and style models in our writing classes. Drop off and pick up in the regular UHC Grace Carline. Please register on the sign up here. \nTo learn about this program and the presenters\, see livefreesc.org. You can also preview the curriculum.  \nIn order to hold this course at UHC\, we MUST have 4 or 5 parents attend the event. We need two dads and two moms. The classes are separated by gender. \nPlease make sure that you send signed consent form with your student. SUMMARY:GVL MS - Upcountry History Museum Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Come learn about different eras of our South Carolina history! The focus for this field trip will be on World War II\, and students will be able to handle artifacts from the war! We will have classroom learning time as well as time to walk around and experience the museum. The field trip time is from 10:45-12:45pm. \nCost is $14/adult; $11/student; $10/sibling. Participants will pay at the door. Ages 2 and under are FREE.  We need a minimum of 3 chaperones\, but all siblings must have a parent chaperone.\n\nFeel free to bring a packed lunch to eat on the lawn following the field trip!

SUMMARY:TR MS - Pavilion Ice Skating Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun and educational field trip at The Pavilion! We will tour the facility and learn all about ice rinks\, refrigeration\, and important components of ice skating and hockey. After the tour\, students will have the opportunity to take an ice skating and ice hockey lesson as well as have free time to ice skate. Lunch can be added for an additional fee or you may bring your own lunch. \nStudents may be dropped off for this event\, and we will need 2 chaperones to help supervise. Chaperones do not need to purchase a ticket. \nOther adults who would like to skate may purchase a ticket at the rink for $8.95. Siblings may attend as long as the parent is staying the entire time\, and you need to purchase a student ticket for them. \nCost:\n$12.21 (without lunch)\n$16.54 (includes lunch – 2 slices of pizza\, chips\, and a drink) \nRegistration will end Sunday March 29th and no refunds can be given after that date.
