DESCRIPTION:Open to all ages for Spartanburg UHC\, join us for snow tubing at Zip n Slip in Mars Hill\, NC on Monday\, January 27th 11:00am-1:00pm. $15/rider for 2 hours (which is a HIGHLY discounted rate. The owners are former homeschoolers and have a heart for homeschooling which is why they are offering this rate). Ages 3-5 are free if riding on a parent’s lap. Ages 2 and under may not tube\, but they can play in the snow and they will give you a tube to pull them around on if you’d like. After tubing\, warm up around with the fire roasting marshmallows. Feel free to pack a lunch as there are picnic tables on the property. There are also a few restaurants nearby they recommended that could use the business. Please print and sign the waiver to bring with you found on their website. Pay upon arrival\, but please sign up so we can give them a head count.

SUMMARY:GVL: Zip N Slip Snow Tubing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for 2 hours of tubing at Zip N Slip in NC on Thursday\, January 16 from 11-1. We will have the whole snow park to ourselves! Each ticket is only $15 per person due to a HUGE homeschool discount! Children ages 3-5 are free with a paying adult. Children under the age of 3 are not allowed down the slope due to their insurance regulations. The facility has large snow makers so the event will still be on even in an unseasonably warm January day. Bring a change of clothing just in case. After tubing\, they provide marshmallows to roast. They do have chocolate bars for sale or you’re welcome to bring your own goodies to make a full s’more. Feel free to pack a lunch but don’t worry about bringing anything other than water. They have the best homemade hot chocolate (cocoa\, sugar\, milk) and cider in the WNC. The facility takes “all forms of payment.” Payment will be due on site when you arrive. We just need a headcount of who is attending\, feel free to bring friends! \nPlease fill out this waiver prior to attending: https://zipnslip.com/waiver/ \nAndy\, the owner of Zip n Slip\, also says that he is happy to distribute any donations we bring for the WNC relief efforts. I’d love if we could bless the area with any winter gear (new/gently used) for him to pass out to his neighbors and churches that have been affected by the flooding.

DESCRIPTION:*CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER* Too cold!! The temps would be high 20’s when we arrived and not getting above mid 40s all day\, and it’s all outside. Possible reschedule later! \nStudents will walk the trails to the water with a certified guide to perform visual stream surveys\, chemical tests\, and collect aquatic invertebrates to determine the water quality of the Reedy River. Some of the historic information of Conestee will be covered as well. \n*They do offer the opportunity to wear boots and get in the water during the collection time. This isn’t necessary so students can choose whether or not they get in. There is no need to get wet besides feet. \n$10/student $5/adult. Students will use various materials and cutting tools to design and build one (or more) projects. Examples include a floating hummingbird\, a periscope\, a rolling roller-coaster\, and a bouncy skee-ball game.\nStudents bring: pencil\, ruler or measuring tape\, hot glue gun with extra glue sticks\, scissors\, x-acto knife \n\nMrs. Dori Impson will teach students Chemistry through the creation of an Alka-Seltzer Powered Lava Lamp \n\nOverview:  Students will learn about the effect of heat upon a chemical reaction as they make lava lamps using Alka-Seltzer. By applying the Scientific Method\, we will discuss how heat can be a catalyst in chemical reactions by speeding up the movement of molecules. \nStudents bring: Pencil \n\nMrs. Claudia Simpson   \n\nOverview:  Students will be Building Straw and Paper Towers.  Given a specific amount of teacher provided supplies\, students will create then test the strength of their towers.    \nStudents bring: Pencil\n\nMrs. Anna Humphries : Coral Reef Biomes \n\nOverview: Students will be focusing on aquatic biomes\, specifically coral reefs.
