DESCRIPTION:Get ready for an exciting project day for our Middle School (6th – 8th grade) students!  Students can look forward to various project based learning all centered around the theme “Take Flight!”.  Students will rotate through 4 classes with 4 different teachers.  As part of their project day\, students will also have snack/break and lunch.   \nWhen:  Monday\, April 8th\, 2024 \nTime:  9:00- 2:00pm.  You may drop off your student at Grace Church  through the regular carline beginning at 8:45.  Students will be checked at the top of the North stairs  and put in their assigned group for the day.   \nCost:  $20 per student \nWhere:  Middle School Project Day for students in 6th – 8th grades will be held at UHC’s Grace Church campus. \nWhat to Bring:  \nA backpack with the following: \n\n\n\nUHC ID  \nWater Bottle\nSnack\nLunch\nAny materials listed below for each class\n\n\n\nSign Ups:  Registration is required. \nCancellations:  If you need to cancel your student’s registration for any reason\, please contact Karla Partin.  Refunds are available up until Friday\, April 5th at 12:00pm.  After that date and time\, no refunds will be issued for any reason. \n\n  \nMiddle School Classes: \nPhysics and Engineering- Water Bottle Rockets– taught by Carolyn Collett\n\nOverview: In this activity\, students learn about the basics of aerodynamics and flight by designing\, building and launching water bottle rockets with the challenge to compete to see which design flies the farthest distance or remains aloft the longest amount of time. This activity will cover engineering design\, center of drag\, center of mass\, and momentum\nMaterials Needed: pencil\, ruler or measuring tape\, hot glue gun with extra glue sticks\, scissors\, x-acto knife or similar cutting tool\, and an empty 2-liter bottle\n\nHot Air Balloons– taught by Anna Humphries\n\nOverview:  For this project\, students will learn about how hot air balloons work and convection currents. Then we’ll draw and create a hot air balloon using watercolors and other forms of media. This activity incorporates both science and art for a fun\, lovely finished piece of work\nMaterials Needed: Pencil\n\n The Flight Deck– taught by Malissa Kittrell\n\nOverview: Students will look at how Navy jets launch from Navy Flight Decks.  They will use our iPads to design and code their own jet launchers to launch with a countdown or a motion.  They will test their launcher by using it to fly paper airplanes\nMaterials Needed: All materials will be provided\n\nExploring Forces in Flight– taught by Jodi Williams\n\nOverview: Students will construct straw rocket shooters and paper helicopters and use them to experiment and observe the effects of force\, gravity\, and trajectory.  They will have opportunities to change various elements of their builds to see the impact it has on their flight patterns\, looking at cause and effect. \nMaterials Needed: scissors\, Scotch tape if you have some

When you purchase a ticket you will need to include a signed contract. All UHC students attending prom and their guests must have their attire approved through Jupiter Ed. \nDress Code Approval Instructions (for UHC students and their guests):\n•Due on or before midnight April 8th\, 2024. SUMMARY:GVL MS/HS - Sassy Stables Farm
DESCRIPTION:Our 2 hour field trip will include kids to be split up into 4 different groups. The groups will rotate around to different learning stations where they will spend approximately 20 minutes at each one. One station will be horse riding and guided instruction\, one station will be learning about horses and their care\, one station will be learning about raising and caring for rabbits and chicks\, another station can be a nature/farm scavenger hunt or gardening skill (TBD). \nThis field trip is a great ‘crash course’ that incorporates a lot of what they teach with the horses and offers a quick introduction to these areas. \n$15/student (paid on site at the event)\nDress weather appropriate as most of this field trip is outside.\n*Optional: bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the farm at the conclusion of the field trip.

DESCRIPTION:We are looking forward to an exciting fun filled Field Day for our SPT Elementary students this spring!  Field Day for Spartanburg campus will be Thursday April 18 from 10:00-12:00pm.  Park in Lot D and Field Day will be happening on the big Soccer Fields near Lot D at Church At the Mill!  Students may begin arriving at 9:45.  Parents are encouraged to join in the fun!   Many volunteers are needed to make this event a success.  Each grade is assigned a particular color for the day.  For fun\, students will dress out in at least 1 item of clothing of the color that represents their class. This can be as simple as a shirt or the student can dress head to toe in the particular color.  There will be a prize awarded to the grade with the most participants decorated in their grade’s color.  Each grade will stay together as they rotate through each Field Day activity.  Some games will include water\, but your child should not get completely soaked. Field Day will conclude at 12 pm.  You are invited to stay for a picnic on the grounds.  Every family will bring their own lunch and enjoy fellowship with their friends.  Solar Bears Gourmet SnowBalls truck will be onsite at the conclusion of our event.  Snowballs may be purchased from $3-5 (based on size).
