DESCRIPTION:Hello High Schoolers!\nIt’s time to get excited for our annual 9-12th grade dance! The theme this year is called “to the moon and back”! The dance will be held on Friday\, November 17th from 7:30-10:30 pm at The Barn (725 Bellview Road\, Woodruff\, SC). We will have light snacks\, drinks\, and lots of music. Be sure to come ready to dance! It is going to be a night to remember and we cannot wait to see you all there!\n\n\nParents\, if you’d like to chaperone the dance\, send Mrs. Clayton a JE message.\n\nTo purchase a ticket:\n•Tickets go on sale for $20 (cash or check to UHC) from October 25th-November 8th. Prices will increase to $23 from Nov. 13th-15th\, so be sure to get them early. Tickets are nonrefundable.\n•All UHC students and their guests must have a signed contract and must purchase tickets through UHC. Tickets can be purchased from Erin Hayes in the lobby of the Student Center during lunch at Grace. Spartanburg students can put their contract and money in an envelope and give it to an administrator on campus. If you’re unable to purchase a ticket during those times\, please send Mrs. Clayton a JE message.\n•In accordance with the UHC Statement of Faith\, all dates must be of the opposite gender. If you are planning to purchase a ticket for a non-UHC guest (of the opposite gender) to the dance\, they must also have a signed student contract.\n•Carefully read through our guidelines and dress code linked below\, then print and sign.\nFall Dance Dress and Attendance Contract\n•All UHC students attending the high school dance and their guests must have their attire approved through Jupiter Ed by November 13th. See directions below.\n\nDress Code Approval Instructions (for UHC students and their guests):\n•Due on or before midnight November 13\, 2023. However\, if you wait until this late and your attire is not approved\, you may have difficulty finding a new outfit in time.\n•Upload 2 pictures of yourself in the attire you plan to wear to the dance to the assignment posted in JE in your High School Students class (1 picture of the front\, and 1 picture of the back of your outfit).\n•Your dance attire will be marked with “Yes” or “Needs adjustment” in the comment section.\n•When you purchase a ticket\, your dress code approval in JE will be marked as “missing” until you upload the required photos.\n• If you are bringing a non-UHC guest that prefers not to send you pictures of their attire for JE\, please have them reach out to Mrs. Clayton at mrs.clayton.uhc@gmail.com.\n\n-Your student government dance committee and admin!

Once we got deep into our research\, we realized you could get better pricing on several locations via the National Park Pass and/or using your homeschool association membership card. We also worked diligently to get group pricing at a resort right near Colonial Williamsburg\, but they would not agree to what we wanted for a large group. Therefore\, everyone is on their own for lodging and meals. To help you with your planning\, we have compiled a list of local hotels HERE. \nHere is our  Proposed Itinerary: \nDay 1\, Friday\, 03/15/24 – Travel Day. Optional Lunch stop at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park\nDay 2\, Saturday\, 3/16/24 – Jamestown Settlement (morning) and Historic Jamestown National Park (afternoon)\nDay 3\, Sunday\, 03/17/24 – Colonial Williamsburg – Part 1 (this location needs 2 full days to fully explore it)\nDay 4\, Monday\, 03/18/24 – Colonial Williamsburg – Part 2\nDay 5\, Tuesday\, 03/19/24 – Yorktown Battlefield (morning) and American Revolution Museum (afternoon)\nDay 6\, Wednesday\, 03/20/24 – Travel Home or Optional Activity: Busch Gardens \nYou can find additional details\, including pricing HERE. There is much flexibility within this trip for families with children of a variety of ages! If you are teaching American History this year or next\, you can use this trip as a large part of an honors addendum! \nJust a note\, to get the best Colonial Williamsburg pricing (educational group discount) you do need to be part of our group. We will be collecting payments at a later time. \nThis trip has a lot of details that would be impossible to include in one post\, and we anticipate many questions; therefore\, we will be holding a virtual Google meet on November 2nd @ 7:45pm for those interested in this trip. DESCRIPTION:Helping kids explore food\, get curious and gain confidence eating new things can feel daunting\, but when we attach it to fun\, games and cooking\, it opens the door to discovery. Join us for a hands-on nutrition & cooking class to explore fall foods and flavors\, learn some basic cooking skills and promote connection with your child. This class is ideal for kids K5 through 5th grade. It is instructed by Registered Dietitian\, Nutritionist\, and mom\, Jennifer Hunt\, RDN\, LD. \nOnly children participating need to purchase a ticket. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a look back in history at Cowpens Battlefield on Friday\, November 3rd\, 2023 at 10:00am. We will divided into two age groups. There will be a 15-30 minute video in the theater on the Battle of Cowpens and then the tour guide will lead us on a 1 hour walking tour of the battlefield. There is a museum and also picnic shelters to enjoy your packed lunch and an additional hiking trail if you wish to stay after. Siblings are welcome. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun time @ Pump It Up. We will get one hour in each inflatable arena to play! This is not a drop off event. Younger/older siblings are welcome to come with you-please register them. Anyone on the premises has to complete a waiver. We receive a discounted group rate\, and we must meet a minimum of 20 kids. Kids under 2 are not counted in our 45 max total but will still need a waiver filled out. \n**Important: Follow only the link provided to be signed in to our field trip and fill out the waiver.\nDon’t forget socks!! Please arrive ten minutes prior to our jump time of 1pm. The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War\, and it bears the names of the 58\,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. \nThis unique opportunity provides an educational experience at a level impossible even at The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington\, D.C.
