SUMMARY:SPT K3-5th Sassy Stables - Horseback Riding\, Horse Education and Fun!
DESCRIPTION:Sassy Stables at 570 Barnett Rd in Greer – This is a 2 hour field trip from 10:30 am to 12:30 on Friday\, November 22\, 2024 for Spartanburg K3 – 5th Graders. Students will be divided into groups per age and will rotate through learning stations to include a guided horse ride\, horse painting and horse care. This is an outdoor event so dress accordingly. \nParents are encouraged to stay\, but non-participating siblings cannot stay (only babies in arms are permitted)\, due to limited space at this small\, sweet farm. Paid siblings (k3-5th grade ages) are permitted to participate\, even if they do not attend UHC. Parents must attend for K3 – K5 students. Please let us know at registration if you will be staying. \nSuggestions for those who do not stay due to siblings. You can visit Holston Greek Park or Campbell’s Covered Bridge\, both less than 10 minutes away. \nCost is $15 per child to be paid in advance. No charge for adults. There is a 20 student minimum for this field trip. \n(This is a rescheduled event from October which was rained out) \n  \n*no refunds will be issued after 11/19*

Our morning will be full of exciting games\, some fun prizes\, Christmas tunes\, crafts that can be used as decor or gifts and best of all\, time with friends! DESCRIPTION:Middle School Science Day \nGet ready to enjoy hands-on science activities with our UHC GVL teachers! \nWho: Grades 6-8 \nWhen:  Wednesday\, December 4\, 2024 from 9:10am to 2:35pm  \nWhere: UHC GVL Grace Campus; Check in will be in Main Building 2nd Floor \nCost: $25.00 per student payable upon sign up. \n\n**Important to Remember** \n\nStudents will need to bring their UHC student ID\, water bottle\, and lunch.\nDrop off/pick up will take place in the regular UHC Grace Church carline.  You may drop off from 8:45-9:10am.\n\nStudents will check-in that morning in the gym. \nQuestions? Please email UHC Middle School Director\, Karla Partin: kpartin@upstatecoop.org \nSCIENCE DAY IS FULL. \nPLEASE JOIN THE WAITLIST BELOW\n\nMrs. Carolyn Collett will teach students Physics and Engineering through Cardboard engineering. \n\nOverview: Students will learn about several different science/engineering concepts\, such as: inertia\, Newton’s Laws of Motion\, elasticity\, optics\, and center of mass. Students will use various materials and cutting tools to design and build one (or more) projects. Examples include a floating hummingbird\, a periscope\, a rolling roller-coaster\, and a bouncy skee-ball game.\nStudents bring: pencil\, ruler or measuring tape\, hot glue gun with extra glue sticks\, scissors\, x-acto knife \n\nMrs. Dori Impson will teach students Chemistry through the creation of an Alka-Seltzer Powered Lava Lamp \n\nOverview:  Students will learn about the effect of heat upon a chemical reaction as they make lava lamps using Alka-Seltzer. By applying the Scientific Method\, we will discuss how heat can be a catalyst in chemical reactions by speeding up the movement of molecules. \nStudents bring: Pencil \n\nMrs. Claudia Simpson   \n\nOverview:  Students will be Building Straw and Paper Towers.  Given a specific amount of teacher provided supplies\, students will create then test the strength of their towers.    \nStudents bring: Pencil\n\nMrs. Anna Humphries : Coral Reef Biomes \n\nOverview: Students will be focusing on aquatic biomes\, specifically coral reefs. We’ll be creating a collage while also learning about tints and how to go from light to dark and light sources. We’ll be using paint and pastels. \n Students bring: Pencil
