DESCRIPTION:Place: Hampton Heights Baptist Church/UHC Campus – 2511 Wade Hampton Blvd.\, Taylors\, SC 29615. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall (Door B). \nThis Seminar is a one-time requirement per family for UHC High School Registration. \nHERE is a list of topics covered during the seminar. \nIf you are putting a student in our high school program\, even as an 8th grader\, this seminar is mandatory. It is a one-time obligatory requirement per family and must be done in order to register. Students need not attend. \nIf you are a current member with a new high school student\, you must be signed up for this seminar before you can enroll. Please note that your high school registration will not be secured until the class is completed. This is not to be harsh\, but rather because we have found over the years that there are many important details for our high school families as they travel the journey towards graduation that are communicated in this seminar. We want you to be prepared on the front end of the high school journey and not scrambling as you get near graduation. \nIf you want a consultation\, please note that on the sign up form. DESCRIPTION:Get ready for an exciting project day for our K5-2nd grade students!  Students can look forward to various project based learning all centered around the theme “Take Flight!”.  Students will rotate through 3 classes with 3 different teachers.  A parent assistant will be assigned to each group of students and will help them rotate.  As part of their project day\, students will also go to recess twice and have snack and lunch.   \nWhen:  Monday\, April 8th\, 2024 \nTime:  8:45am – 2:00pm.  Please note the change in time from the usual class day!  We are making an effort to finish the class day earlier than normal so students may enjoy the eclipse with their families! \n\nMorning Drop Off:  You may drop off your student between 8:30-8:45am in the HH Gym by either walking them in or dropping them off through the carline.  Students will be checked in the Gym and given a name tag and put in their assigned group for the day.\nAfternoon Pick Up:  All parents will be required to PARK and bring their car tag into the HH Gym to pick up their students.  There will be no carline pick up due to the eclipse.  Parents should use discretion and have their children wear protective eye covering if desired when exiting the gym.\n\nCost:  $20 per student  \nWhere:  Elementary Project Day for students in K5-2nd grades will be held at UHC’s Hampton Heights campus. \nWhat to Bring:  \n\nA backpack with the following:\n\nWater Bottle – clearly labeled with student’s name \nSnack – please label it clearly as SNACK\nLunch\nJacket\, if cold.  Students will be having recess on the playground\, weather permitting.\n\n\n\nSign Ups:  Registration is full!  Please sign up for the WAITLIST and you will be contacted if a spot opens up for your student.  Thank you!   \nCancellations:  If you need to cancel your student’s registration for any reason\, please contact Abby Williams.  Refunds are available up until Friday\, April 5th at 12:00pm.  After that date and time\, no refunds will be issued for any reason. \n\n \nK5-2nd Grade Classes: \nHow Wings Work– taught by Mrs. Steph Norris \n\n\n\nOverview:  Students will have a choice between creating a flapping butterfly using straws to move the wings OR a flapping bird using string to move the wings up and down and if time allows they will make other types of simple flyers.\n\n\n\nIs That A Bird? – taught by Dr. Nancy Bretmann \n\n\n\nOverview:  Students will rotate through WorkShops learning about different types of animals that “fly”.  Through Search & Finds\, mini-crafts\, science videos\, and relay races\, we will explore the “Flying World” around us.\n\n\n\nPrepare for Takeoff!  – taught by Mrs. Ace Fallaw \n\n\n\nOverview: Climb aboard Fallaw Airlines and take a direct flight to the past. On this trip\, passengers will learn about the inventions of airplanes. The pilot and crew will provide in flight entertainment through building an airplane out of blocks and decorating miniature planes. When the plane lands safely at its final destination\, the passengers will have a souvenir from their travels as well as a better understanding of how planes have changed over time.

We’ll enjoy an interactive read aloud and informative video clip\, complete a puffin directed drawing\, play a find-and-rescue the puffling collaborative game leading to more information about puffins\, and make a puffin craft.\n\nWright Brother Wings– taught by Courtney Pitts \n\nOverview:  Come along for a fun-filled hour of living as the Wright Brothers did! We will use varying materials to build our very own plane! Don’t get confused with the basic paper airplane\, this is MUCH more challenging as we decide how wind\, drag\, weight\, and physics play into the perfect flying machine!\n\n  \nRocket Lab- taught by Rosie Ducharme \n\nOverview: Have you ever wondered how a rocket can make it up to outer space? If you have\, then come join Mrs. Ducharme in a rocket lab! We will learn about the forces that launch rockets and the forces that try to stop rockets. Using that information we will be building (and rebuilding) paper rockets to see how high and far we can make them go.\nStudents will build different styles of rockets to see which one goes the farthest.\n\nHot Air Balloons– taught by Laurie Zweigle \n\nOverview:  Join Mrs. Zweigle through the History of hot air balloons. Beginning in Paris\, the Hindenburg\, NASA space balloons. Interactive slides and videos. The progression from Gas\, hydrogen and helium balloons. Excerpts from Fantasy Children ‘s book “Twenty-One Balloons” by William Pène du Bois. Complete with a hot air balloon craft.

This activity will cover engineering design\, center of drag\, center of mass\, and momentum\nMaterials Needed: pencil\, ruler or measuring tape\, hot glue gun with extra glue sticks\, scissors\, x-acto knife or similar cutting tool\, and an empty 2-liter bottle\n\nHot Air Balloons– taught by Anna Humphries\n\nOverview:  For this project\, students will learn about how hot air balloons work and convection currents. Then we’ll draw and create a hot air balloon using watercolors and other forms of media. This activity incorporates both science and art for a fun\, lovely finished piece of work\nMaterials Needed: Pencil\n\n The Flight Deck– taught by Malissa Kittrell\n\nOverview: Students will look at how Navy jets launch from Navy Flight Decks.  They will use our iPads to design and code their own jet launchers to launch with a countdown or a motion.  They will test their launcher by using it to fly paper airplanes\nMaterials Needed: All materials will be provided\n\nExploring Forces in Flight– taught by Jodi Williams\n\nOverview: Students will construct straw rocket shooters and paper helicopters and use them to experiment and observe the effects of force\, gravity\, and trajectory.  They will have opportunities to change various elements of their builds to see the impact it has on their flight patterns\, looking at cause and effect. \nMaterials Needed: scissors\, Scotch tape if you have some

DESCRIPTION:Juniors and Seniors\,\nWe are so excited to announce our annual Junior/Senior Spring Formal (prom)! The theme this year is called “Hollywood Boulevard”! The dance will be held on Thursday\, April 11th from 7:30-10:30 pm at The Cannon Center (204 Cannon St Greer\, SC 29651). We will have light snacks\, drinks\, and lots of music. Be sure to come ready to celebrate and dance! It is going to be a night to remember and we cannot wait to see you all there! Seniors\, be sure to check your Jupiter Ed soon for prom king and queen info. \nParents\, if you’d like to chaperone the dance\, send Mrs. Clayton a JE message. \nTo Purchase a Ticket: Ticket sales are now closed. \n•Tickets were available to purchase  from March 18th-April 8th online or on Greenville’s campus.\n•Tickets are nonrefundable. \nGuidelines and Dress Code: Carefully read through our guidelines and dress code linked here\, then print and sign. When you purchase a ticket you will need to include a signed contract. All UHC students attending prom and their guests must have their attire approved through Jupiter Ed. \nDress Code Approval Instructions (for UHC students and their guests):\n•Due on or before midnight April 8th\, 2024. However\, if you wait until this late and your attire is not approved\, you may have difficulty finding a new outfit in time.\n•Upload 2 pictures of yourself in the attire you plan to wear to the dance to the assignment posted in JE in your High School Students class (1 picture of the front\, and 1 picture of the back of your outfit).\n•Your dance attire will be marked with “Yes” or “Needs adjustment” in the comment section.\n•When you purchase a ticket\, your dress code approval in JE will be marked as “missing” until you upload the required photos.\n• If you are bringing a non-UHC guest that prefers not to send you pictures of their attire for JE\, please have them reach out to Mrs. Clayton at mrs.clayton.uhc@gmail.com.

After wrapping up the tour and learning about popsicle production\, they offer popsicles to all paying attendees and offer a chance to ask any questions.

SUMMARY:GVL MS/HS - Sassy Stables Farm
DESCRIPTION:Our 2 hour field trip will include kids to be split up into 4 different groups. The groups will rotate around to different learning stations where they will spend approximately 20 minutes at each one. One station will be horse riding and guided instruction\, one station will be learning about horses and their care\, one station will be learning about raising and caring for rabbits and chicks\, another station can be a nature/farm scavenger hunt or gardening skill (TBD). \nThis field trip is a great ‘crash course’ that incorporates a lot of what they teach with the horses and offers a quick introduction to these areas. \n$15/student (paid on site at the event)\nDress weather appropriate as most of this field trip is outside.\n*Optional: bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the farm at the conclusion of the field trip.
