SUMMARY:Storm Backpack Project
DESCRIPTION:We have a special opportunity to get our UHC community and especially our students involved in serving other students in western NC! Due to Hurricane Helene\, many kids are out of school and have lost all their school supplies. We are partnering with a group of local moms to fill that need! The goal is to fill 2\,000 backpacks with books and school supplies by the end of October.  \nHere is where you come in! We would love for you to involve your kids and gather some or all the following items specifically\, new or gently used: \n\nBackpacks\nColored pencils\nCrayons\nPencil boxes/pouches\nPencil sharpeners\nQuality chapter books for 3rd grade and up as we have enough younger aged books\n\nAdditionally\, we desire to place a card from a local child in each backpack. This is a special way to encourage the children in NC who have been through so much. Use this as a special writing assignment for your students one day this week and drop off the cards at your campus. \nYou can drop off supplies and cards at every campus next week\, Oct 28-30. Look for the sign designating Storm backpack project drop off. \nGrace Church: \nMonday\, October 28th and Wednesday\, October 30th – at the carline back door \nHampton Heights: \nMonday\, October 28th and Wednesday\, October 30th – outside of door A \nSpartanburg: \nTuesday\, October 29th ONLY – in carline \n\nThere are also online wishlists for those who would prefer to pick out things online\, or want to share the need with your friends. That list can be found here: https://mom2momnccomdomainonly.wordpress.com/books-backpacks-shopping-list/ \nIf shopping through Amazon\, please select RachelFarrell’s Gift Registry as a shipping address during checkout. \nThis is a simple way to show our children to serve and love others\, especially kids just like them. \nIf you have any questions\, please text one of our UHC Moms organizing this project:  Rachel Wong @ 434-229-7176 \nThanks for your help!

SUMMARY:Zan Tyler Event
DESCRIPTION:Dear UHC Families\, \nWe have an incredible opportunity to hear from a woman whose contribution to South Carolina homeschooling paved the way to freedoms we enjoy today. \nZan Tyler’s homeschool journey began in 1984 when homeschooling was illegal and she was threatened with jail. For eight years\, she and other families battled for homeschool freedom and established landmark homeschool legislation in South Carolina. In 1990\, she founded the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS) and served as its president for ten years. Zan loves to empower parents as they answer their God-given calling to homeschool. She is an inspirational speaker and author. \nWe will be hosting a special event with Zan Tyler on August 19th at 12:35pm at our Greenville Campus (Grace Church in Taylors). Attendance is free\, but registration is required. \nEvery person that registers will be entered into a drawing for a free student standardized testing certificate (Woodcock-Johnson test of achievement $90 value) from SMART Testing. \nWe encourage all teachers\, parents\, and students to attend this event – it is so very vital for us to know the history of the homeschooling movement in SC to preserve the freedoms for our future generations. You will be overwhelmed when you hear the full circle ending as recent as this past year! \n

SUMMARY:UHC Williamsburg Trip 2024 - Interest Meeting - Virtual Google Meet
DESCRIPTION:Dear UHC Families: \nIt’s time to start preparing for our Williamsburg Trip March 15-20\, 2024! \n***TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS EVENT\, PLEASE JOIN US FOR VIRTUAL GOOGLE MEET ON NOVEMBER 2nd @ 7:45pm***\nMeeting Link: meet.google.com/iaq-tepw-net \nWe have been working on this planning for quite some time now to give you the best possible pricing on our spring break trip. Once we got deep into our research\, we realized you could get better pricing on several locations via the National Park Pass and/or using your homeschool association membership card. We also worked diligently to get group pricing at a resort right near Colonial Williamsburg\, but they would not agree to what we wanted for a large group. Therefore\, everyone is on their own for lodging and meals. To help you with your planning\, we have compiled a list of local hotels HERE. \nHere is our  Proposed Itinerary: \nDay 1\, Friday\, 03/15/24 – Travel Day. Optional Lunch stop at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park\nDay 2\, Saturday\, 3/16/24 – Jamestown Settlement (morning) and Historic Jamestown National Park (afternoon)\nDay 3\, Sunday\, 03/17/24 – Colonial Williamsburg – Part 1 (this location needs 2 full days to fully explore it)\nDay 4\, Monday\, 03/18/24 – Colonial Williamsburg – Part 2\nDay 5\, Tuesday\, 03/19/24 – Yorktown Battlefield (morning) and American Revolution Museum (afternoon)\nDay 6\, Wednesday\, 03/20/24 – Travel Home or Optional Activity: Busch Gardens \nYou can find additional details\, including pricing HERE. There is much flexibility within this trip for families with children of a variety of ages! If you are teaching American History this year or next\, you can use this trip as a large part of an honors addendum! \nJust a note\, to get the best Colonial Williamsburg pricing (educational group discount) you do need to be part of our group. We will be collecting payments at a later time. \nThis trip has a lot of details that would be impossible to include in one post\, and we anticipate many questions; therefore\, we will be holding a virtual Google meet on November 2nd @ 7:45pm for those interested in this trip. We will go over additional details and answer any related questions. Registration and payment deadline (for Colonial Williamsburg portion) will be posted after we hold our virtual meeting. \nPlease RSVP below for the virtual Google meet.
