2024-2025 School Year
Geometry Honors SPT
This Readiness Test is highly encouraged, but not required for UHC enrollment purposes.
Course Description
This class covers traditional high school geometry topics while including logic and proof. It does not only teach the student geometric principles, but also guides the student through a thought process in which mathematical ideas are discovered. Class time will include direct instruction as well as much collaborative work.
Geometry Virtual Lab is available for students who would benefit from an extra live practice session.
To be successful in this class:
Materials must be brought to class each day. Students will be expected to spend approximately one hour working on geometry outside of class time per day. In general, two new lessons will be taught during each class meeting, and daily homework will be assigned. Tests will be given to be taken at home, proctored by a parent. Good reasoning skills are critical to geometry; some of these skills will be developed during the course of study, but incoming students need to be able to follow a series of “if-then” statements to a logical conclusion. The ideal Honors Geometry student is one who enjoys solving puzzles and is willing to wrestle with challenging problems before asking for help.
Summer homework: There will be some required homework due the first day of class, primarily from Chapter 0 of the text. The total time spent on this homework will be on the order of two to three hours.
Grades: 9th Grade, 10th Grade, 11th Grade
Fees: $465 + $40 materials fee
Prerequisites:
Algebra 1
Summer Assignment
Course Credit: 1 math (honors)
Required Materials
Textbook:
- All Things Geometry – Bound and printed student text and digital parent answer key will be provided
Other materials:
- 3-ring binder (at least 1 in.)
- Calculator with basic trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan)
- Bow compass
- Protractor
- Straight edge or ruler
- Mechanical pencil

Honors Addendum Summary
Honors students will complete:
- Honors students will complete additional homework for most units. These assignments often require Algebra to be integrated into solving Geometry problems.
- Each test and exam will include additional problems at the Honors level, which will require a deeper understanding of the concept and/or higher level mathematical skills
- Honors students will complete one to two additional projects each semester.
Specific assignments and details for honors work will be provided by the teacher.
