Algebra 2 Honors GVL

This Readiness Test is highly encouraged, but not required for UHC enrollment purposes.

Course Description

All the mathematical concepts listed below will be investigated through functions, graphs, and word problems. The calculator will provide an enhancement of the material. Students will: gain an understanding of different algebraic models, including Linear, Absolute Value, Quadratic, Exponential, Logarithmic, Rational, Irrational, and Higher-Order Polynomials; study systems of linear equations and inequalities; quadratic relations such as circles, parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas; and sequences and series.

This class has summer homework.

Algebra 2 Virtual Lab is available for students who would benefit from an extra live practice session.

To be successful in this class:

Students should expect to complete two to three hours of work outside of class for each hour in class. Tests and assignments will be given to take home, to evaluate progress. A midterm and final exam will be administered, in class, at the end of each semester.

Grades: 9th Grade, 10th Grade, 11th Grade, 12th Grade

Prerequisites:

In order to take the Algebra 2 Honors course students must meet one of the following criteria AND have a recommendation from their last math instructor:

  • Score 95% or better in Algebra 1 CP course
  • Score 90% or better on the math composite of the Stanford Achievement or IOWA
  • Score 93% or better in Algebra 1 Honors or Geometry Honors course.
  • Exceptions will be made only upon written request of the parent and a conference with the Algebra 2 teacher prior to registration.

Summer Assignment is required.

Honors Addendum Summary

Honors students will complete:

  1. Extra honors problems on homework and tests.
  2. One honors project will be assigned each semester. The assignment is long, has multiple parts, and requires students to be creative. Students are encouraged to start the assignment early in the semester. It is not meant to be completed in one sitting.

Specific assignments and details for honors work will be provided by the teacher.
