Course Description

This 6th grade math course builds on arithmetic concepts and prepares students for more complex skills presented in middle school. The curriculum is traditional math from Abeka.

Assignments will be posted on the homework assignment calendar in Jupiter Ed. This class follows the 24-week middle school schedule and will meet at 8 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.  August homework is assigned and required.

Note:Parents are required to own the teacher editions, review/reteach concepts on non class days, and check and correct all practice sets.

To be successful in this class:

Students will be required to keep an interactive notebook which includes steps, examples, practice problems and test reviews. They will use these in whole group instruction as well as in cooperative grouping activities. Their participation and note-taking helps enhance their understanding and will help to prepare them for their homework and tests/quizzes. Students should expect to spend 2-3 hours completing at-home assignments each week. It is expected that the teaching parent will be heavily involved in homework completion, checking for accuracy, and corrections. Parents are required to initial each completed assignment to indicate that the student has made a best effort on the assignment and corrections have been done thoroughly. This class is fast paced and requires dedication to daily homework and parent involvement. Students may also be enrolled in a Wednesday only Math Lab if addition help with homework is needed.
