English w/General Literature CP GVL

Course Description

General Literature will expose the students to different styles, genres and forms of literature. Students will do the reading outside of class. In class we will discuss the material, complete different types of activities, and take quizzes on the material. Grades will be based upon class participation, writing assignments, objective tests, reading and vocab quizzes, projects, and homework assignments. The homework and reading assignments for this class are expected to be between 5 to 7 hours a week. Some books will take less reading time than others.

To be successful in this class:

Students must have good time management skills, be able to organize material and complete assignments turning them in on time. Students will be expected to be able to maintain a rigorous reading schedule, come to class prepared, take an active part in classroom discussions; write responses to material read; and pass tests and quizzes that cover the material discussed and read.

Grades: 9th Grade, 10th Grade

Prerequisites:

Parents must read UHC High School Literature Class Parent Information before registering their student for a literature class at UHC.

Course Credit: 1 English

  • Three ring binder/notebook
  • Every student in grades 7-12 taking a Literature class at UHC must have access to the Blue Book of Grammar.  You can download a free pdf or purchase a hardcopy.
  • You will only need to download or purchase this book once, and your student will use it as a reference for all UHC Literature classes.

  • Notebook paper and something to write with. Your choice what you write with as long as it is not scented (so no sharpies).
  • 3 ring notebook for handouts and notes
