Introduction to Business Honors GVL

Course Description

An overview of the world of business covering owning and operating a business, personal financial planning, and interviewing skills. This class utilizes project-based learning for concept knowledge. Students will participate in a Shark Tank, learning about franchises, and in-depth book discussions relevant to today’s business world. Class will also help students build relationship skills at home, school, work, and in the community.

To be successful in this class:

Students must be able to keep up with assigned reading material, and be able to discuss in class. Students should be able to establish relationships for required team work. Students should be self-motivated and have a desire to learn. Anticipate 1 hour of homework per week.

Grades: 10th Grade, 11th Grade, 12th Grade

Fees: $465

Students should have access to or knowledge of a work environment.

Honors Addendum Summary

All honor students will read two teacher-approved books during the school year. An assignment (paper or presentation) will be completed for each book.

Meet Amanda Kaufman

Education: B.A. Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University and M.Ed in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University

Experience: I taught English 1 and English 2 at Summerville High School from the beginning of 2019 through the end of 2020. Business experience includes leading a finance department of family business, overseeing budgeting, job costing, and financial strategies. Has also helped launch a marketing company.

Homeschool experience: When I left public education at the end of 2020, I decided to homeschool my own children the following school year. I cherish the time that we get to spend together growing in knowledge and faith.
