High School Exam Policy and Schedule

UHC Exam Policy

The majority of testing for UHC classes occurs at home with the parent as the proctor. This policy offers a comfortable environment for the student and allows for UHC teachers to spend more of the 64 Co-op days teaching content. However, the end of semester exams are treated differently, and are held on campus with students testing together in the classroom environment. This is an important part of a student’s education as well as their evaluation. It is especially important for UHC students for the very reason that most testing IS done at home and not in the classroom. They need to have this experience before leaving high school.

Even though we call the last 2 days of each semester Exam Days, and the schedule is different, these days are a regular part of the 64 days of High School Co-op. Teachers put a great deal of time and thought into how to assess a student’s knowledge of the semester material whether they give a test or evaluate in a different format. Some use this time to fit in special labs, projects, presentations, or other material that they may not otherwise get to cover. Because of this,

  • Teachers will not send tests home or excuse projects or other assignments due on these days.
    • If a teacher were to send a semester exam home for a student to take early or late, the integrity of that test becomes compromised and the teacher can not fairly evaluate the students.
    • If tests are returned to teachers via mail, they are then required to work unpaid during a holiday or summer break to grade them and update the grade books.  The administration desires that the teachers have a break in the same way as our families enjoy the break.
  • If a student is physically ill on exam day, there will be a make-up day for Fall exams (see exam schedule below). Parents will pay a fee for students to take an exam on the make-up day with a UHC Proctor.
  • Seniors may not participate in the Graduation Ceremony unless required exams have been completed.
  • If a student knows they will be absent for a regular exam session:
    • They may request to take an exam during the Early hour (0 hour) exam time if he/she does not already have an exam at that time.
    • If the student already has an 8:00 a.m. exam, he/she will need to choose another time during that day to take the exams to be missed. This will need to be approved by the high school director and the teacher. Students will need to email the Learning Differences Administrator to set up their proctor.
    • The parent will need to pay a fee for this service since the exam will have to be proctored under the supervision of a UHC proctor.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students may only be on campus if they are taking an exam. Focused Study class DOES NOT meet on the second and third exam days, so carpooling parents, please make arrangements to have your students dropped off and picked up at the appropriate times.

Students may only exempt a written test exam.  Students may not be exempt if the exam period is being used for an in-class essay, presentation, project, lab, or other extended teaching.

Students must have a 95 or greater in the class on the date designated.

An automated Jupiter Ed grade report will be sent out with the grade that will be used to determine eligibility and will be considered notification to the parents and students.  The student must still contact the teacher and get confirmation of the exemption.

Students must continue to attend class and turn in all assignments on time through the last regular class day including exam review days.  Students exempting a early/zero hour exam are responsible to attend all other classes the day of the exempted exam.

If the student fails to attend class or turn in requisite homework through the first day of exams, they are no longer exempt and will be required to take the exam.

No student who has undergone disciplinary measures during their senior year may be exempt from exams.  This will be determined by the High School Director and Mrs. Brown.
