2024-2025 School Year
Comparative World Religions Honors GVL
2nd Semester
Course Description
Comparative World Religions will explore religions around the world. The class will be taught from a Christian perspective, understanding that Jesus is the only way to salvation, God is the one true God and the Bible is God’s inspired word. This class will look at the history of the group, the founder, number of followers, their holy books, and their view of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, salvation, and the afterlife. With each religious group we will discuss how to best witness to a follower of the group. Grades will be based upon, class participation; objective tests and quizzes; projects, and homework assignments. The subject matter of this material requires that a student be mature in their thinking and able to develop their own beliefs through study of the Holy Bible, discussion with parents, class discussion, and study of the texts. This course has the expectation of the student spending three to five hours a week on homework assignments.
To be successful in this class:
Students must be at a level of maturity that allows them to stand firm in what they believe while exploring other religions. The ability to reason and use critical thinking skills is a must. In addition, students must have good time management skills, be able to organize material and complete assignments turning them in on time. Students will be expected to come to class prepared, take an active part in classroom discussions, write responses to material read or discussed, and complete projects and quizzes that cover the material discussed.
