Personal Finance Honors GVL
Course Description
Personal Finance will provide students with the tools necessary to make smart financial and investing decisions. Students will take a career inventory through YouScience and explore potential earnings of different career paths to have a potential income from which to learn and develop strategies for budgeting, managing money, investing, saving, using debt wisely, maintaining a good credit score, and retirement planning. We will also discuss renting/leasing vs owning housing and vehicles, and insurance including health, life, property, and disability. We will cover income employer benefits, withholding and income taxes. We will do all we can to help our students learn to be good financial stewards and prepared for life after graduation.
To be successful in this class:
Students should plan to spend 2-3 hours per week outside of class to complete required assignments and projects for the class.
Grades: 9th Grade, 10th Grade, 11th Grade, 12th Grade

Course Credit: 1 elective (honors)

Honors Addendum Summary
Students will complete additional homework problems and test questions. Students will also complete two projects, books, or presentations per semester.
Meet Cathryn Anderson
Education: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Personnel Management The University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC
Teaching experience: Financial educator and coach with over a decade working in the financial industry as a loan officer and personal financial advisor. Other business experience includes small business ownership, 401(c)3 non-profit management, and international business
