English w/Literature 4 CP GVL (next offered 2027-2028)

English 1, 2, 3, and 4 are offered on a 4-year rotating literature cycle. English w/Literature 4 is next offered in 2027-2028.

Students must have approval from the High School Learning Differences Administrator, or Suzanne Brown, Executive Director, to enroll in this class.

Course Description

This English class will expose the students to different styles, genres, and forms of literature. Students will do the reading outside of class. In class we will discuss the material, complete different types of activities, and complete assessments on each text. Grades will be based upon class participation; objective tests and quizzes; written papers, projects, and homework assignments. Must do grammar at home.

To be successful in this class:

Students must have good time management skills, be able to organize materials and turn in assignments on time. Students will be expected to be able to maintain a weekly reading schedule, come to class prepared, take an active part in classroom discussions; write responses to material read; and pass tests and quizzes that cover the material discussed.

Grades: 9th Grade, 10th Grade, 11th Grade, 12th Grade

Fees: $450 (smaller class size)

Prerequisites:

Parents must read UHC High School Literature Class Parent Information before registering their student for a literature class at UHC.

Course can be used for English 1, 2, 3, or 4 as the course will be taught on a 4-year rotating literature cycle.

Required Materials

  • Three ring notebook
  • Every student in grades 7-12 taking a Literature class at UHC must have access to either an electronic copy or a hard copy of the Blue Book of Grammar.  You will only need to purchase this book once per family, and your student(s) will use it as a reference for all UHC literature classes.

  • Notebook paper and something to write with. Your choice what you write with as long as it is not scented (no sharpies).
