Algebra 2 Honors SPT
Course Description
All the mathematical concepts listed below will be investigated through functions, graphs, and word problems. The calculator will provide an enhancement of the material. Students will: gain an understanding of different algebraic models, including Linear, Absolute Value, Quadratic, Exponential, Logarithmic, Rational, Irrational, and Higher-Order Polynomials; study systems of linear equations and inequalities; quadratic relations such as circles, parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas; and sequences and series.
This class has summer homework.
Algebra 2 Virtual Lab is available for students who would benefit from an extra live practice session.
To be successful in this class:
Students should expect to complete two to three hours of work outside of class for each hour in class. Tests and assignments will be given to take home, to evaluate progress. A midterm and final exam will be administered, in class, at the end of each semester.

Prerequisites:
- Algebra 1
- This course is only recommended as honors for those who have earned A’s (90-100) in previous high school math courses.
- Summer Assignment is required.

- TI-83 Graphing Calculator (or any graphing calculator that is approved for use on the SAT)
Optional Materials:
- Algebra 2 Teacher Edition (3rd Edition) BJU Press (This can be a helpful tool because it has answers to every problem and provides solutions in the page margins.)
Honors Addendum Summary
Honors students will complete:
- Extra honors problems on homework and tests.
- One honors project will be assigned each semester. The assignment is long, has multiple parts, and requires students to be creative. Students are encouraged to start the assignment early in the semester. It is not meant to be completed in one sitting.
Specific assignments and details for honors work will be provided by the teacher.
Meet Emily Manning
Education: Bachelors in Math Education from Morehead State University and Masters in School Counseling from University of the Cumberlands.
Teaching Experience: Began teaching in 2014 at Ripley High School in Ripley, Ohio then moved to Lloyd High School in Erlanger, KY and taught there from 2016- 2024.
UHC Courses Taught: Math 6
Began teaching at UHC in 2025.
