2024-2025 School Year

Spanish 2 CP GVL

Course Description

This Spanish 2 course builds upon the foundations established in Spanish 1, further developing students’ language proficiency, with an emphasis on the communicative skills of listening and reading comprehension, speaking, and writing. Cultural information is integrated into the lessons to provide students with an understanding of Spanish-speaking communities and countries. Specific grammar topics covered include a review of the present tense, the preterite and imperfect tenses, indirect and direct object pronouns, reflexive verbs, the present progressive, formal and informal commands, the subjunctive mood, and the future tense. Vocabulary that will be covered include airport and travel, sports and health, vocabulary related to storytelling and Mexican legends, food preparation, ordering food at a restaurant, describing extended family members, and careers and professions. It is a fast-paced course with the continued emphasis of communication in Spanish.

To be successful in this class:

Active participation in class is crucial. To acquire a new language, you must process the Spanish you hear in class, listen, and repeat to practice pronunciation. Students must also complete regular homework assignments to reinforce what is covered in class. Typically, homework assignments cover the material presented in class, so it is important to follow carefully in class, participate, and ask questions when needed. Students should expect to spend 3-5 hours on average each week working on this course at home. This time will usually be spent completing homework assignments, doing a unit project or test, and reviewing the unit vocabulary words.
