World History for Middle School GVL – INACTIVE

Course Description

This course provides students with an overview of world history from creation to the present. Students will interact with history through narratives, primary source documents, maps, timelines, and hands-on activities. Students are given daily reading assignments and take most tests at home. Parents will need to aid students by checking assignments, helping students study, and proctoring tests at home.

Note: Summer homework will be assigned in August and will need to be completed by the first day of class.

To be successful in this class:

Students must be able to organize material and complete assignments on time. Students will be expected to follow the assignment calendar, maintain a rigorous reading schedule, study material at home, come to class prepared, take an active part in classroom discussions, and interact with history through creative projects.

Students will complete 2-2.5 hours of homework each co-op week.

Grades: 7th Grade, 8th Grade

Meet Dori Impson

Education: Ph.D student in Digital History at Clemson University (currrent), M.A. History from Clemson University (2025), B.A. Early Childhood Education from Clemson University (2000) – Field of study includes American History, Legal History and Civil Rights.

Teaching experience: I have over twenty years of teaching experience in various classroom environments, including public school, private school, and public charter as well as homeschool.

Homeschool experience: Our family has homeschooled using the Classical Approach to education since 2012. We also have experience with Abeka and Horizons material as well as incorporating Orton Gillingham methods into our school day.

Certifications: Orton Gillingham Certification- Associate Level- August 2017- The Orton-Gillingham Academy
