Career Success Independent Study CP GVL

This class is not a traditional 2 day a week course.  Students meet 3 times in person, with the remainder of the course taking place through video calls, emails, and independent study.

Course Description

This class will NOT meet on the regular Monday/Wednesday schedule, but will instead meet once per month on the dates listed above. The intent of this class is to prepare students for future career success. Building on knowledge gained in the Career Exploration class, students will focus on building out their personal professional profile including resume, cover letter, and personal promotion and marketing. Additionally, students will learn soft skills that will be crucial to professional environments including ethics, networking, expectations and evaluation tips, and how to be a coachable employee.

Short assignments will be given with a due date for completion in order to keep students progressing at a rate to complete the course objectives.

At completion of this course students should be prepared to start an internship in the Career and Trade Connections Program.

This course is offered in the summer semester.

To be successful in this class:

Students must be self-motivated and have a desire to be in the class. Students must be able to complete assignments in a timely manner, ask relevant questions, and grow in professional knowledge and practice.

Grades: 10th Grade, 11th Grade, 12th Grade

Prerequisites:

Career Exploration (as a part of the CTC Program) is required.

Course Credit: 0.5 CP Elective Credit.

Meet Stuart Floyd

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (American Studies); Master’s degree in Business Administration

Teaching experience: Various college and high school career seminars, frequent guest lecturer for college classes.  Successfully coached hundreds of college students through career search process.
