Course Description
This course covers American government including states, important documents, and branches of government, along with state and local government, symbols and holidays of America, leaders, voting, the party system, military, as well as Native American government and homeland security. Reading, workbook pages, and activities help reinforce the material. The 2 volumes of text and the Citizen’s Handbook come with the curriculum package. The Lesson Review Workbook must be added separately for a nominal charge. Students are given daily reading assignments and take most tests at home. The class time consists of lectures and activities. Parents will be asked to aid students by checking answers to workbook pages, helping students study for tests, and proctoring tests sent home by co-op. Assignments will be posted on the class assignment calendar and in Jupiter Ed.
** Summer homework will be assigned in August and will need to be completed by the first day of class.
To be successful in this class:
Students must be able to organize material and complete assignments on time. Students will be expected to follow the Jupiter Ed assignment calendar, maintain a rigorous reading schedule, study material at home, come to class prepared, take an active part in classroom discussions, and interact with civics through creative projects. This course requires 2 – 2.5 hours weekly of work at home.

Textbook: Uncle Sam and You Curriculum Package by Notgrass. This purchase includes all 3 of the required textbooks (Part I, Part II, and The Citizen’s Handbook)
