World Geography Honors GVL

Course Description

World Geography and Culture study is an overview of the variety of countries, cultures and religions that inhabit our earth. Students will study maps, learning how to read a map and organize a map book. From there the class will offer an overview of major world countries, their cultures and religions. We will discuss what it looks like to be a Christian in many of the different counties around the world. Students will explore a country answering a list of questions, drawing maps for the country and identifying important information about the country. The second semester students will use the knowledge they have learned about the different countries to create their own country. They will answer questions about their country, draw maps, the currency, the capital building and identify important information about the country. Students will explore the many different foods of the regions we discuss. They will select a recipe  from one of the countries and cook a main dish for their family.  Grades will be based upon class participation; objective tests and quizzes; projects, map quizzes and homework assignments. This course requires 3-5 hours a week of at-home work.  Time at home is spent completing homework assignments, taking quizzes or tests, and preparing for presentations or class activities.
