2025-2026 School Year

IEW 2 Intermediate Middle School Writing TR

Mondays AND Wednesdays

Course Description

This class will require daily parent supervision/teaching. We will be teaching from the Structure and Style for Students: Year 2 Level B [Binder & Student Packet]. This course will pick up where our IEW1 class leaves off. Students will write a variety of both research and creative papers. The 1st semester will focus on deepening the students’ skills with the 3 paragraph model. During the 2nd semester the focus will be on learning how to write a variety of different styles of 5 paragraph essays–including research, persuasive, and creative. Additionally, students will work through the IEW’s grammar program using Fix It!, The Frog Prince, Book 5. Grammar homework will be assigned 3 days a week. Research has shown that if our students can write well by the end of junior high, they will be more successful in all areas of high school work.

To be successful in this class:

This course will include DAILY assignments throughout each week. Students will be expected to take notes during class, read the class update twice a week, and participate in weekly in-class writing labs. Like the previous IEW classes, this writing class requires a considerable amount of parent involvement. Parents are required to edit papers with students each week as well as sign the checklist indicating their involvement throughout the week.

All compositions will be turned in as hard copies; printer capabilities are a requirement for this course.

*Laptop/Chromebook is not required, but very helpful for writing/editing papers during the weekly in-class writing labs.
