Date: Monday, July 10-Thursday, July 13, 2023
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: UHC, Room # 218
Instructor: Laura Erwin
Cost: $75 per student, bring to first day of workshop
This course is intended to help prepare high school students to take the SAT, focusing primarily on the Math portions. I will also talk about some test-taking strategies that apply to the Reading, Writing, and Essay portions as well. Most of the skills we work on will also be used on the PSAT, which is given in October each year. Students who will be juniors this Fall should not take the PSAT without some preparation.
There will be no textbook for this course. There will be numerous handouts given, and we will use one of the Official Practice Tests from the College Board site for many of our example problems. Instructions will be sent to registered students as to exactly which pages need to be printed and brought to class.
There will be no homework assigned, but students are expected to bring an SAT-approved scientific calculator to each class, and to work through the problems as they are presented. We will also review and practice techniques for solving problems without a calculator because one section of the test does not permit calculators.

Message from the teacher:
I homeschooled my three sons for a total of 20 years. I earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from San Jose State University. I have spent much of the past 30+ years teaching and tutoring, including 15 years at the Upstate Homeschool Co-op. I am passionate about helping students to see our great God’s hand in all of His creation, including Math and Science principles. I find it especially delightful to see a student’s eyes light up with one of those “aha!” moments, when a difficult concept finally clicks. I am also available to parents, to help them learn to better teach their students. ~Laura Erwin
