High School Exam Policy and Schedule
UHC Exam Policy
The majority of testing for UHC classes occurs at home with the parent as the proctor. This policy offers a comfortable environment for the student and allows UHC teachers to spend more of the 64 Co-op days teaching content. However, the end of semester exams are treated differently, with students testing on campus together in the classroom environment. This experience is an integral part of a student’s education and evaluation. It is essential for UHC students because most testing is done at home rather than in the classroom. They need to have this experience before leaving high school.
Even though we call the last two days of each semester Exam Days, and the schedule is different, these days are a regular part of the 64 days of High School Co-op. Teachers put a great deal of time and thought into assessing a student’s knowledge of the semester’s material, whether they give a test or evaluate in a different format. Some use this time to fit in special labs, projects, presentations, or other material that they may not otherwise get to cover. Because of this,
- Teachers will not send tests home or excuse projects or other assignments due on these days.
- If a student is physically ill on exam day, there will be a make-up day (see exam schedule below). Parents will pay a fee for students to take an exam on the make-up day with a UHC Proctor.
- Seniors may only participate in the Graduation Ceremony if required exams are complete.
- If a student knows they will be absent for a regular exam session:
- They may request to take an exam during the Early hour (0 hour) exam time if he/she does not already have an exam at that time.
- If the student already has an 8:00 a.m. exam, he/she must choose another time during that day to complete the missed exam. This will need to be approved by the high school director and the teacher.
- A fee is required for the service of a UHC proctor.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students may only be on campus if they are taking an exam. Focused Study class DOES NOT meet on the second and third exam days, so parents should arrange to have their students dropped off and picked up at the appropriate times.

Students in grade 12 may exempt their exams if they meet the grade criteria below.
1st SEMESTER (FALL)
- Only a written test exam can be exempted. Students may not exempt if the exam period is being used for an in-class essay, presentation, project, lab, or other extended teaching.
- Students must have a 95 or greater in the class on the date designated. This date will be approximately 2 weeks prior to the end of the semester and the exact date will be communicated through JupiterEd.
2nd SEMESTER (SPRING)
- A written exam or an essay, project, or presentation that is given in lieu of a written exam may be exempted.
- Students must have a 90 or greater as a yearly cumulative grade in the class on the date designated. This date will be approximately 2 weeks prior to the end of the semester and the exact date will be communicated through JupiterEd.
On the designated date, a report will be run in JupiterEd to determine up-to-date grades for all seniors. This report will be given to teachers to notify them of the students who qualify to exempt an exam. Students should check with teachers to confirm if you are eligible to exempt.
To retain the privilege of exemption, students must:
- Continue to attend class
- Turn in all assignments on time through the last regular class day including exam review days.
Students exempting a early/zero hour exam are responsible to attend all other classes the day of the exempted exam.
If the student fails to attend class or turn in requisite homework through the first day of exams, they are no longer exempt and will be required to take the exam.
No student who has undergone disciplinary measures during their senior year may be exempt from exams. This will be determined by the High School Director and Mrs. Brown.
