Middle School Guidelines for Utilizing Videos in Instruction or Assignments

  • UHC Middle School will not send students to YouTube to watch videos as an assignment.  This is one way we can support our parents and protect our students from potentially harmful ads and other content visible on YouTube.
  • UHC Middle School will not share slides to students containing access to YouTube for the same reason as explained above.  You may use YouTube videos during your class presentation, and instructions are below for embedding videos ad-free to avoid any potentially harmful ads popping up in class.

ASSIGNING STUDENTS TO WATCH A VIDEO at HOME: Teachers will use EdPuzzle to assign videos:

  1. Set up directions for EdPuzzle can be found HERE.
  2. Upon watching, a GRADE will be SENT to your JE GRADEBOOK!
  3. If you need help, read out to Meredith Landis, and she will set you up!

Here is a helpful Student Reference Guide.

SHOWING  and SHARING CLASS SLIDES WITH VIDEOS EMBEDDED: When embedding videos into your slides to show in class and share with class WITHOUT ADS or a clickable link to live YouTube, teachers will:

Open the Google Slide that you want the video in and then in the menu bard click:

  • Insert
  • Video
  • YouTube (search for the video or paste the YouTube URL into the search box). *Do not use the “share” link from YouTube, it has to be the actual link you found in the URL address bar.
  • Remember, if the YouTube video is a long video and you only want to show a portion of the video, you can edit the start and ending time of the embedded video in Google Slides.
  • Test each video in the “slideshow mode” to make sure no ads play before and during the video.

2. Watch this video for visual instructions.
