Beta Club
As the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America, National Beta is dedicated to leading by serving others. Their four pillars are the perfect summation of the core of National Beta. The Beta community recognizes high academic achievement, rewards and nurtures worthy character, fosters leadership skills, and encourages service to others.
Being a Beta means being a part of a community of leaders who are positively impacting the world. (from the National Beta Club Website)
At UHC, we offer Junior Beta Club (for rising 7th and 8th graders) and Senior Beta Club (for rising 9th-12th graders).
The steps to become a member of Beta Club at UHC are:
1. Meet the Requirements for Membership.
2. Complete the Application Form.
3. Application then is reviewed by Beta Club and UHC Leadership.
4. Qualified students receive an invitation to join Beta Club.
5. Students complete the Student Commitment Form.
6. Parents complete the Parent Commitment Form and pay for membership.
Requirements to join:
- Enrolled in current 6th or 7th grade classes at UHC and intending to return for the upcoming school year. (Transfer students from another Beta Club charter must meet UHC charter requirements and will be processed on a case-by-case basis.) Students must be enrolled and attend at least one class at UHC.
- Maintain a B average (3.0 GPA) or higher at UHC (based on Jupiter grades) AND at home.
- If the applicant is taking less than three classes at UHC, applicant must submit a current report card to the UHC middle school director as part of the application process. This information is reviewed by the UHC Administrative Staff only.
- Understand that the UHC Executive Director will review the final list before a student invitation/welcome letter is sent.
- Complete a minimum of 15 community service hours per year, properly documented with the signature of a supervisor. Part of these hours will be completed as a group with the Beta Club; however, some of the hours will need to be completed independently and are the responsibility of the member but must be completed outside of the home and for non-family members. Service hours may begin after induction and must be completed every year to maintain eligibility.
- Commit to payment of initial national dues of $24 plus annual UHC dues of $8.
While it is an honor to be included in National Beta Club membership, potential members and their parents need to consider whether they can invest the time and effort in this organization before completing the application process. Therefore, understand the following:
- Members will be expected to attend 4 out of 6 meetings during the school year and contribute actively to the Club. Club meetings are currently held one Monday per month, from 2:35 to 4:00 PM at the Grace Church Campus, and staying for the duration of each meeting is required. Attendance will be documented, and students must stay until 3:45 to be counted as present.
- Parents of Beta Club members will be required to assist either during Club meetings or events, on a sign-up basis, depending on Club needs. More details will be forthcoming about these service opportunities once the student is accepted. This time is independent of mandatory UHC volunteer hours. Club needs may vary, depending on membership size and will be under the direction of the Beta Club Coordinator.
The focus of the club will be “Let us Lead by Serving Others” and to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among UHC students and the community.
