Course Description

This high school Computer Science course provides a foundation in computing principles and business applications. We’ll learn fundamental computer concepts while applying essential business software including documents, spreadsheets, and presentation tools using Google Suite. Fundamental concepts will include hardware, software, networking, the internet, cybersecurity and coding. We’ll explore business implications of modern technologies in blockchain, cryptocurrency, and artificial intelligence. We will review various computer topics with biblical considerations surrounding technology use with the goal of instilling wisdom and discernment. Upon completion of this course, students will possess both technical knowledge and practical skills needed for success in college and the future workforce in our increasingly digital economy.

To be successful in this class:

There are two keys to success in this course. Consistent Practice: spend time exercising the various concepts and skills we discuss in class. Plan for around 3-5 hours of homework and practice outside of class. Growth Mindset: approach the technical components and challenges as learning opportunities! Some of the topics may be familiar but challenge yourself to look closely with the goal of improving your existing knowledge and skills. Or, follow your curiosity and do independent study on topics of interest within the subject. Access to a working computer and internet is required for homework assignments.
