Middle School

UHC middle school program is a cooperative for homeschooling families, offering a variety of core and elective classes to assist parents as they homeschool. We do not take the place of a school, but come alongside homeschool families to offer classes that will assist parents as they teach their children. Our cooperative is academic in nature and does require attendance and completion of assignments due each week.

The middle school years are a unique time in a student’s life. Our middle school team at UHC understands these transitional years and is equipped and excited to partner with parents as they home educate their young people. Middle school coursework and classroom experiences at UHC are designed to transition and prepare students for the high school years.

Middle School classes meet 12 weeks in the Fall and 12 weeks in the Spring for a total of 24 weeks. Depending upon grade level, campus, and class, students attend class once or twice per week. The days each class meets is clearly indicated in the course description and on the Middle School Class Schedule.

  • Greenville classes meet at Grace Church in Taylors on Mondays and Wednesdays with classes scheduled from 8:00 am to 2:35 pm.
  • Spartanburg classes meet at The Church at the Mill on Tuesdays and Thursdays with classes scheduled between 9:10 am and 2:35 pm.

The course descriptions list tuition and fees, curriculum the parent must purchase, prerequisites, a description of the course, and teacher bio. The content of each course description will equip parents in making course decisions, and careful reading of descriptions is imperative while planning a course of study.

Parents of students with learning differences, need to read through our Learning Differences information to learn what types of accommodations may be available for students.

For 6th-8th grade UHC classes, the teaching parents will manage the student’s work on the non co-op days of the week by following an assignment calendar posted in Jupiter Ed, an online grading system for assignments, grading, report cards, and communication between the teachers, students, and parents.  Parents will completely teach and manage the other classes at home that students do not take at UHC, and our Middle School Curriculum Planning Worksheet may prove helpful in planning a student’s academic year.

While making decisions concerning joining our cooperative for middle school at UHC, please read UHC Middle and High School Teacher and Parent Expectations.

Sixth Grade

The 6th grade program at UHC seeks to provide a bridge from the elementary years into the world of middle school. With that in mind, our 6th graders take a package of four classes. Each class is an hour and five minutes, and students rotate between classes with their group assisted by our teachers and parent assistants. 6th graders will take two classes, have morning break where they are welcome to have a snack, attend a third class, followed by lunch and the fourth class period.

The 6th grade educators at UHC enjoy middle schoolers and are intent upon helping students and parents adjust to the increased responsibilities middle school brings. Consider our 6th grade teachers educational partners joining with parents as a team working together towards an excellent education.

UHC 6th Grade is offered at both UHC Greenville and Spartanburg.

Seventh & Eighth Grades

7th and 8th grade coursework at UHC is designed for the maturing middle schooler to acclimate to the rigor and responsibilities of high school.  Our middle school program provides a bridge to a successful high school transition.

UHC 7th and 8th grade middle school classes are offered on an “a la carte” basis. To see the course description for each class, please click on the class name below. The course description for each class will provide information concerning textbooks/supplies required, tuition/fees, a summary of the class, the teacher’s name and bio, etc.

Seventh and eighth grade students at the Greenville campus will meet on Mondays and/or Wednesdays depending upon the course – the days each class meets is indicated in the course description and the class schedule. Seventh and eighth graders at our Greenville campus may take up to five core/core elective classes and may also choose to add one to three additional support/non homework classes: Art, Math/Writing Lab, Digital Literacy, and Study Skills.

Seventh and eighth grade students at the Spartanburg campus will meet on both Tuesdays & Thursdays as indicated in the course descriptions listed below. Spartanburg 7th and 8th graders may take one to 5 classes.
