Middle School
UHC middle school program is a cooperative for homeschooling families, offering a variety of core and elective classes to assist parents as they homeschool. We do not take the place of a school but come alongside homeschool families to offer classes that will assist parents as they teach their children. Our cooperative is academic in nature and does require attendance and completion of assignments due each week.
The middle school years are a unique time in a student’s life. Our middle school team at UHC understands these transitional years and is equipped and excited to partner with parents as they home educate their young people. Middle school coursework and classroom experiences at UHC are designed to transition and prepare students for the high school years.
Middle School Program Overview
Middle School classes meet 12 weeks in the Fall and 12 weeks in the Spring for a total of 24 weeks. Students attend class twice per week. The hours each class meets is clearly indicated in the course description and on the Middle School Class Schedule.
- Greenville classes meet at Grace Church in Taylors on Mondays and Wednesdays with classes scheduled from 8:00 am to 2:35 pm.
- Spartanburg classes meet at Church at the Mill on Tuesdays and Thursdays with classes scheduled between 8:00 am and 2:35 pm.
- Travelers Rest classes meet at Clearview Baptist Church on Mondays and Wednesdays with classes scheduled between 8:00am and 2:25pm.
Sixth Grade
The 6th grade program at UHC seeks to provide a bridge from the elementary years into the world of middle school. Each class is an hour and five minutes, and students rotate between classes assisted by our teachers and parent assistants.
The 6th grade educators at UHC enjoy middle schoolers and are intent upon helping students and parents adjust to the increased responsibilities middle school brings. Consider our 6th grade teachers educational partners joining with parents as a team working together towards an excellent education.
Seventh & Eighth Grades
7th and 8th grade coursework at UHC is designed for the maturing middle schooler to acclimate to the rigor and responsibilities of high school. Our middle school program provides a bridge to a successful high school transition.
UHC 7th and 8th grade middle school classes are offered on an “a la carte” basis. To see the course description for each class, scroll to the bottom of this page, filter for your campus and click on the class name. The course description for each class will provide information concerning textbooks/supplies required, tuition/fees, a summary of the class, homework expectation, the teacher’s name and bio, etc.
Seventh and eighth grade classes at the Greenville and Travelers Rest campuses will meet twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Spartanburg classes will meet twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Seventh and eighth graders may choose to take as few as one class or as many as five classes.
For 6th-8th grade UHC classes, the teaching parents will manage the student’s work on the non co-op days of the week by following an assignment calendar posted in Jupiter Ed, an online grading system for assignments, grading, report cards, and communication between the teachers, students, and parents. Parents will completely teach and manage the other classes at home that students do not take at UHC. Our Middle School Curriculum Planning Worksheet as well as our Course Recommendation Guidelines may prove helpful in planning a student’s academic year.

UHC Middle School is an academic based cooperative which means assignments are graded and attendance is expected. Middle school students are expected to commit to attending classes, completing assignments with integrity, and treating their co-op teachers and classmates with respect. While making decisions concerning joining our cooperative for middle school at UHC, please read the following foundational principals of our program:
- UHC Middle and High School Teacher and Parent Expectations.
- UHC Middle School Grading Policy
- UHC Middle and High School Testing Policy and Procedures
- Electronic Device Policy
- Academic Integrity
- UHC Dress Code
Upon enrollment, parents and students are required to agree to adhere to the policies stated within the UHC Handbook and keep the terms, conditions, and privileges described therein. Make time to read, understand, and commit to the expectations in our handbook when considering enrollment.
UHC middle school students are expected to attend Middle School Orientation at their campus. Orientations are held in August before classes begin and give students an opportunity to meet their teachers and practice their class schedules. Please make sure to add these important dates to your calendar!
Jupiter Ed is our online Learning Management System. UHC Middle School manages all assignments, grading, and communication between parents, students, teachers, and administrators in JE. Parents and students are expected to login to JE each weekday during a co-op week. To view more information about Jupiter Ed, click HERE.
Parents of students with learning differences are invited to read through our Learning Differences information to learn what types of accommodations may be available for students when enrolled in our Learning Differences program.
- Monthly Social Events and Field Trip Opportunities!
UHC Middle School students are invited to attend monthly gatherings either after co-op on non co-op day afternoons. These events are published on our website and in our announcements.
